Development of a “Maschinelles, Automatisiertes, Mannloses Abbruchverfahren” (machine-based, automated, unmanned, demolition) – MAMA process – for use on cooling towers. The development results are to be implemented on an existing machine system.
The dismantling of large cooling towers, as currently required in nuclear facilities and coal-fired power plants, requires a special level of process control and safety. Explosives do not meet the requirements for controlled demolition, which means that other technologies must be used. MB Spezialabbruch has developed a demolition device based on an excavator, which demolishes the cooling tower structure piece by piece and in a controlled manner. Currently the devise is operated via remote control and observed and overseen from a work platform on the cooling tower. To improve working conditions for the operator as well as to increase productivity, the process is to be automated and monitored from a control station located on the ground. For this purpose, the machine is equipped with sensors for environmental detection and outfitted with communication and computing technology. The excavator should be able to independently perform the processes for demolition and driving. The operator must be able to monitor and, if necessary, control the process in real time from the control station.
