Boxberg Detonation
Developed by: MB Spezialabbruch GmbH & Co. KG
Development timeframe: 2009
On September 5, 2009, at around 11:00 a.m., the first nearly simultaneous folding detonation of two 300-meter chimneys took place.
Creating the boreholes and inserting the explosive charges at heights of 33, 120, and 210 meters each required a great deal of technical expertise and exact compliance with safety requirements. The blasting of the two chimneys with a total of approximately 500 kilograms of explosives was successfully carried out with a time delay of three seconds using electronic ignition. The total of 42,000 tons of concrete fell in the intended direction without causing any collateral damage.
Other milestones
Together with the TU Dresden and IBL-hydronic, we are working on the MAMA process (machine-based, automated, unmanned, demolition process) for the RDB 100i.
We have successfully applied the method of a safely induced controlled sequential collapse for the demolition of the cooling tower of the nuclear power plant in Mülheim-Kärlich.
